who is sitoë?
I'm the fiber artist and mechanical engineer leading Unknot, a fiber design studio specialized in knotting and weaving.
I graduated with a bachelor’s in Engineering and a concentration in Art and Design from Harvey Mudd College. After working in engineering design for 5 years, I stepped away to start my studio.
My love of sustainability, intuitive design, fashion, and foraging (of the natural and trash variety) drive my work. Weaving these interests together has led me to three paths of research and exploration:
weaving FUNCTIONAL ART in 3D… and designing the looms that make it possible
testing traditional fiber art techniques and technologies on secondhand and discarded materials
Exploring Education strategies for these traditional arts in ways that feel accessible and approachable
As an accessories designer, I’ve collaborated with brands like Etsy, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Mo.Na Gems to create exclusive product lines and conceptual projects. My Unknot purses, Trash Bags, and other wearable art have walked runways like Re.Stance NYFW.
I’ve also had the absolute pleasure of teaching at institutes like the Mingei International Museum and Visions Museum of Textile Art, as well as cultural hubs and galleries including The FRONT Arte Cultura, Burn All Books, and Dear Tomorrow.
